Pig Again

Alina in our lab is heading to Columbia for her postdoc years. No surprise, we went to the PIG again; I can't even remember this is the N-th time I come to the same bar this month...

Without any doubt, our lab is unequivocally a great lab and an amazing place to be, especially after moving to Systems Biology Department. But, it is undeniable that our lab is also a very tough place for students. Tim is always busy and has limited patience. Even he likes to teach students, sometimes he just cannot find any free slot on his calendar to do it.

Alina had been struggled for a long time, published the first paper in her 5th year on JBC which is the last journal our lab will send to. However, she survived. Alina independently generated an idea and project which is probably beyond Tim's knowledge. Even Tim acknowledged it in Alina's defense. Finally Alina got her paper accpeted by Nature.

Last Wednesday in the group meeting, Tim annouced that both Alina and Kendra had their new papers accpeted in the first round without any revision. Tim joked "so it is really possible!!!"

Alina is going to switch to developmental biology. Tim and Chris gave her several classic books in DB and everyone in the lab wrote down some words on first pages.

It somehow makes you feel really good being in such a lab, even though you have to go through some hard time in first several years.
