Chris Did It !

今天是 Chris 的 dissertation defense day，一開始她紙上的老闆 Marc Kirschner 先出來講講 Chris 漫長傳奇的 PhD 之路，之後 Chris 也感謝了 Marc 這麼瞭解他，知道儘管 Marc 是她的 advisor，她還是不會接受任何的 advisement，給了她最大的發展空間。

今天會場來了很多人，還有 Chris 以前在 UCSF 的老朋友，在正式開始她的 talk 前，Chris 不可免俗地也秀了些老照片 (比如說 Andrew Murray 穿芭蕾舞裙喝啤酒)，類似的照片在我們這裡三不五時就會出現一次，雖然有趣，大家也就見怪不怪了。

Defense 結束後就是 party 時間，真的是一起混很久了，Marc 的太太也趕了過來參加慶祝 party，食物十分豐盛。Pam Silver 是 dissertation committee chair， 本來 Chris 應該還要再寫四頁的 introduction，但 Pam 跟她說如果妳不想寫，那就算了吧。

有沒有這麼好的事啊？怎我都遇不到？


Jade 烤了個 cytokinesis cake 幫 Chris 慶祝。在動手切蛋糕之前，Tim 評鑑了一下，說是 cleavage furrow 的 actin filaments 方向錯了，該是直的不是橫的，除此之外一切都還不錯。

Party 結束之後，大家酒喝了很多，蛋糕只吃了一半，不過從內容我們可以很清楚地看到，一邊是芒果蛋糕，另外一邊是巧克力蛋糕，兩個 daughter cells 的 cell content 並不相同，這個 dividing cell 進行的應該是 asymmetric cell division；因此這個細胞有可能是 stem cell，這個蛋糕應該是「幹細胞分裂」蛋糕。對，是 "幹細胞"+"分裂"，不要亂斷句。
